The crash happened on the Platt Memorial Bridge in the 6000 block of Penrose Avenue at 2:11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 21, according to the Philadelphia Police Department.

A black 2024 BMW X4 was eastbound on the bridge when its driver lost control, flipping the vehicle over into the westbound lanes, police said. As it flipped into oncoming traffic, it struck a black 2014 Toyota Camry.

The BMW then continued into the westbound lanes where it struck the front of a silver 2018 Nissan Murano, according to police.

The Toyota's driver, a 40- to 50-year-old man, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Philadelphia Fire Department Medic Unit at 2:21 a.m., police said.

Medics took a 49-year-old man who was driving the BMW to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in critical condition, according to police. The Nissan's driver, a 31-year-old man, was taken to the same hospital in stable condition.

The Crash Investigation Division is actively investigating the crash, police said.
